If someone asks me about my car, I always reply, I like to feel the road when I drive, and if I drive over a coin, I want to know if it was heads or tails.
Micro-Adventuring
What’s the point of owning a classic sports car if you don’t share it with others? Enter, micro-adventures (ala the MGB). Will we reach our destination? Maybe - maybe not. Will we keep the windows gapped to deal with the petrol smells? You bet! Will our throats be sore from talking over the engine and road noise. Most likely. Will my road-tripping pals get a kick out of riding in a car that is much more than a go-cart but far less than any modern car? This is pretty much guaranteed.
Meet Moto-Lita
At my last eye appointment, I found out that I needed readers. Pretty disappointing as I’ve always had great vision. What’s worse, is I’d just shelled out a bunch of money for an Apple watch and was having trouble seeing the apps on its’ tiny screen. My arm just wasn’t long enough to get it into range. So, instead of keeping the watch, I couldn’t see. I sold it and bought this stunning 14" black leather rim wheel with 3 polished drilled spokes by Moto-Lita. Something I can see. And on that day, I realized I’d become a car guy.
The Secret Handshake
You either grow up around car people or not. Unfortunately, I did not. I’m what you’d call, mechanically challenged. Which by the way, can be dangerous and potentially fatal. For instance, one week into classic car ownership, I was trying to remove my battery. I hit metal with my wrench and BOOM!!! a bolt of lightning shot past my face and blasted a chunk out of the metal wrench in my hand. (note: Do not let your wrench touch metal while removing your car’s battery) I remember the smell of burnt metal and thinking, “what am I doing?”. I mean I couldn’t even remove a car battery. But over time, I found forums, manuals, youtube videos, and car people who helped me get my car sorted. This all takes time and is a bit like learning a secret handshake.
